The Plot Thickens

OK, we realize that is a double entendre, but this is really for those who have read The Long Road to Paris, not those who are following our blog about our real trip from NY City to Paris. Our minds are swirling around plot and characters for our next novel. So, our questions to you, dear readers, is what would you like to (buy) read? Would you like a sequel? (You might have noticed we sort of set that up.) Which character(s) would you like to read about? Would you like a prequel? Perhaps Marie-Claire’s story before 2008? (Please don’t give anything away in your response that will get posted.)

Or how about something really different from this book? Still international intrigue and romance but what if Winston Churchill sent a woman spy into Germany to seduce Hitler? Was Eva Braun a British spy? Was it her mission to play to his ego? And for what purpose?

We welcome your thoughts which we promise to mull them over on the LONG plane ride to Beijing on Friday. We will have lots of time, something like 18 hours! Don’t you wish you were us? We have to stay focused on the driving event after that and Doug’s promise that we will have lots of unexpected “opportunities” to experience Asia up close and personal!

See you on the road to Paris,

Ed and Jan

About ejhowle23

Authors and adventurers, participated in the World Race 2011, an automobile rally from New York to Paris, crossing three continents and 14,000 land miles. Following much the same route as the setting for our debut novel, The Long Road to Paris. This blog describes our own adventures and challenges. And now you can follow our Bahamas sailing adventure that provides the setting for our second novel, Night Watch. Our rally, the African Safari Challenge, crossed five countries in South Africa in May 2014 and in 2015 we participated in the second Trans-American rally this time from Nova Scotia to San Francisco. Spring of 2016 we travelled 28 days around Australia with friends from previous rallies and in the fall participated in our most exhausting rally through Argentina, Chili and Peru- the Rally of the Incas. We were awarded the Against All Odds award. We're still not sure if this was for us or our car. Stewball never broke down and we hardly did. We will soon take on Iceland as a self-drive tour and in the fall of 2017 we will participate in the Odyssey Italia and then back to Africa for a do-over (almost) of the Africa Safari Challenge.

Hmm! A prequel might be interesting however, I tend to lean towards something different. What about something around the Olympics? Say a drug company that’s developed a (what will be legal) performance-enhancing drug? The athlete’s competition have gotten wind of if and want to stop him from competing? What do you think?
Have a safe trip! Looking forward to more adventures with you.

Personally, I think the Eva angle might be most interesting. Also, a prequel featuring Marie-Claire.

Have a somewhat-restful flight across the BIG pond.

    Hugs from sunny Andalucia,

First, I’m glad to hear there is more action in the offing for our friends.

As for me, I’d be more interested in what happens next for our main characters. Or perhaps Marie Claire’s son gets into the family business, in more ways than one. I think it’s also likely that somehow the special technology never did make it to commercialization, but other even better technologies — cold fusion anyone? — are ready for testing in a road rally.

With that long plane ride, I imagine you all will have the book half-written by the time you arrive!

More about Ed and Marie Claire, please. How about Karen going completely bonkers with a hired gun/kidnapper? Real messy. Ed and family leave all behind and SAIL away seeking calm waters and safety (they think) only to discover….

  5. Anggie Thompson says:

A prequel of Marie Claire is a necessity. A Karen twist and perhaps more on Ed’s best friend since he wasn’t in much of the plot. I can’t wait for the sequel! Have a most fabulous trip and I can’t wait to hear more on the blog and see the wonderful sites.

Jan and Ed – I sent an idea to Jan’s email – if other people read it I’d have to kill them

  7. Leslie says:

A sequal is a great idea. However, I think you need to make a movie based on the book. As I read the book, the details were so great, I felt like I was actual there in the story along side the characters. The excitement and suspence kept me on the edge wanting to know more. Asking the question over and over to myself, what else could possible happen to Ed and Marie Claire before they could finish their world race?
