Learning to read –at any age

book signing

Remember school book fairs when you were a kid?  The thrill of picking out your own book? Well, on September 24th, I participated in and signed books at a book fair reimaged for adults. The lively event was sponsored by Reading Connections, a non-profit organization in Gilford County, North Carolina,

The evening was a fund raiser for Reading Connections. The goal of this organization is to improve literacy and promote educational equity for all ages, specifically targeting adults.  Operating with trained volunteers who meet, either remotely or in- person, with people who struggle with basic literacy skills and therefore have limited access to information which impacts their heath and work opportunities.

The evening included an open bar, silent auction, music, and books to browse and purchase. A locally recognized motivational speaker, and aspiring author, Busta Brown served as MC, adding his enthusiastic support. As a North Carolina author, I donated ten books, five each of the two titles in the Wind Chaser suspense series. All ten sold the proceeds going to Reading Connections. They plan to repeat this event in the spring in another city and I hope to be part if it again.
